Why can't the touchpad be on the right ? (instead of number pad)

Hi, maybe this will seem strange to some people that actually use the number pad often, but there are some of us that never use it (a few times/year doesn't count).
I mean I just use my machine for internet, multimedia and occasional gaming, so the number pad is useless to me.

Why can't more laptops have an input layout like the one below ?
Or atleast have the touchpad on the lower right corner ?
It really bothers me, since I'm right handed and I have to go across the laptop to use the touch pad, like everyone is left-handed or something !

No, but why use a design that would cutoff about 10% of the market rather than a design that works for all but .01% of the market (that is the ppl who a) care b) want it on the right and c) don't want a numeric keypad)

Actually after seeing the Razer, I kind of thought the same thing. Most users, even many left handers use the mouse on the right of the keyboard, why not the touchpad.

I don't know that a numberpad is all that critical anyhow considering the number of users that prefer thin and light 13" notebooks which have no numberpad. I'd much rather have the touchpad on the right too. Make it an option on the left side for the southpaws.

That's probably about the only positive advancement I got from the Razer.

At first it seemed like a great idea, but then I saw how my hands were when I typed. My hands come in like /\ and I think my right palm would graze the touchpad if it were on the right side instead of the bottom.

And how many times have I accidentally swiped to highlight and delete stuff when my thumb or palm rests on the touchpad at the bottom? If it's to the side, how can you graze it? Your arm would have to be parallel with the keyboard.

to me, at the center bottom is the most efficient as i can use my thumb to move the cursor while my fingers are still the the textbook typist position.

then for those times i don't type, at the bottom center means i can use either hand to move the cursor.

so please don't move to the side, it is less efficient.

In fact, even when I am using mouse and keyboard(a very small hp wireless keyboard and mouse), i found most of the time my mouse is placed right beneath the keyboard area(a bit hard to explain) which again put less strain to my shoulder.

I'm having a hard time visualizing it - how do you hit the space bar without hitting the mouse? Touchpads are flat so there's no problem, but mice are significantly taller than keyboards are.

What really grinds my gears is when the trackpad is offset to the left a little a bit. Also watching to keep my thumbs off the trackpad when I'm using the keyboard can get a little annoying too.

I forgot to mention : thread was started with 15.6" multimedia/ gaming laptops in mind.
On a 17" there is enough space, and on laptops with only integrated graphics, numpads don't bother me, since I don't buy them :D, and many that buy such machines use them for (office) work.
Yes, i kinda have the same hand position, but if you look closer at the right hand position you'll see that if the touch pad would be slightly higher than the keys the right hand wouldn't touch it.
Also, the right arrow key could be beneath the touch pad, so that the position of the arrow keys is better defined :).
And the distance between the touch and the keys could be increased, there is enough space on a 15.6".

I think that touchpad must be either on the center bottom or right side of bottom.
While stupid designers put it in left corner of 16 inch and bigger laptops. idiots. they think that it is much comfortable to use mouse if it is right under the space button but the forgot about existing of trackpad on touchpad and wasd buttons. gamers oftenly excidently touch touchpad while gaming.

Yes, that would be work and be better. I would rather have such a setup than the usual numpad/touchpad on bottom on my 18.4 laptop :D.

On a 18.4" there is definitely enough space :D
