Hi all, first post here and need a little help.

Running a Gateway 450ROG with XPsp2 all up to date. My BIOS is correctly set to look first at the CD/DVD, but when I load a CD I have burned that needs to be bootable, like a utility that is an .iso file, downloaded from my harddrive manufacturer (and I've tried burning on various desktops), its a no go, the notebook boots into windows. When I boot from a CD like a windows installation disc, darned if it will in fact boot from the CD. I don't see anything wrong in computer management services, any other ideas? I'm guessing this is a really obvious problem I'm just overlooking. Thanks!

What software, are you using to burn the cd's?
I use NERO, to burn my ISO's.
    It works great.
You can download a trial version of Nero from their website, if you do not have a copy.

To me that seems that even OEM bootable CDs don't work. Maybe something wrong with your drive. What happens if you put in a bootable CD (both made by you and OEM) and see if they autorun. If the CD and drive are working right, then insterting a cd will make it autorun, especially an OEM windows CD.

let me clarify, OEM cds do run, are bootable. I'm burning CDs with strictly my winxp on board program.

The CD would have to have specific boot files burned onto it. Not something you can easily do with the built in burning function. Try Nero or a similar program as mentioned. It has a "Bootable CD" option.

    Its called Burn Image.

you dont just put the .iso file directly into a data cd. theres a different procedure for disc images

Try ImgBurn aswell, its for free and tis good
