Adobe sRGB profiles...older OS compatibility. There was a time where you needed a file within Windows to tell it what resolutions and refresh rates your monitor supported!

Isn't that stuff communicated to the OS/video card/etc in the EDID, which has been around at least since DVI was invented?

Monitor 'drivers' include ICM profiles, very very current stuff as used in windows.
Pays to read the documentation from time to time.
