I have Core 2 Duo 2.8GHz. Why does CPU-Z indicate that my CPU runs at more than 2.9GHz? It runs at 2.9GHz even when idles. I don't overclock or anything. The BIOS doesn't even allow me to overclock and I don't have any overclocking software. Do I get extra speed for free?

I am observing the same behavior in my T9900. It is increasing the multiplier by 0.5 when single threaded apps are running.

Same with my T7700 here, it goes up from stated max of 2.4 to 2.6 sometimes.

Intel Dynamic Acceleration technology (IDA)
i7 has got the updated version of this which is well known. -

You can use throttlestop, rmclock, crystalCPUID... to make it go up by 1x instead of just .5x.

On my laptop, this only works if I'm in High Performance mode, doesn't work in Balanced or Power Saver (Windows 7). -

Sure, go here:

Download throttlestop. Run throttlestop and select the multiplier that you want (highest multi + 1). Then run intelburntest or ORTHOS with only one thread and watch CPUz. The multi should go up. -
When I checked the multiplier box, my laptop hard froze. So, anyone checking it out make sure you have your open documents saved first.

Sorry about that.
Maybe try crystalCPUID.
Function>intel enhanced speedstep control. -
Same thing, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's just my laptop.

"Dynamic Acceleration" is a laughable predecessor to Turbo Mode. Simply put, it doesn't work, unless you specifically set the affinity or whatver.

What?
I know that if I run wprime single threaded, I get a faster time with IDA than without. -

The user who made throttlestop is on this forum, you could maybe work with him to fix the problem.
I don't really know why it's like that. Do you have any BIOS options that have control over intel speedstep or the CPU speed?
Why does my 2.8GHz CPU run at 2.9GHz?
