Hi all,
Just wondering why 1680x1050 is not an option for laptops with 17" screens? I see a less appealing 1440x900 option or a potentially squint inducing 1920x1200 but why no middle ground?
Cheers,
J.

can't you just get a 1920x1200 and set it at 1680x1050?
-
I think the whole argument of native resolution would mean less than ideal picture quality, no?

The 17-inch MacBook Pro offers 1680x1050 resolution.

yea I guess so, but 1920x1200 isn;t as bad as you think. Its like 1680x1050 on a 15 inch laptop

Must admit, I'm also factoring gaming into the equation. It seems most people a forced to lower their rez to get adequate frame rates. 1920x1200 would be impossible to run full spec at full rez with todays mobile chips.
I can only assume you lose something with lowering the rez for games too.
With this is mind sacrificing a little native rez would make sense but 1440x900 is a little too low for my preferred work rez. -

My dv9500t has native 1680x1050 resolution on a 17" screen.
1920x1200 would be nicer since it can fit a full HD video frame, but alas, it wasn't an option on my model. -
yep same as lupin.. my dv9000t has 1680x1050 as well.... and i am a little disappointed HP couldn't bring the resolution up to 1920x1200 which would be ideal for movies... but 1680x1050 is just perfect for gaming.. as running games at the higher resolution would really work the GPU

Why no 1680x1050 on 17" screens?
