So Im looking for a mid range gaming laptop, around $1000 and then i found this.
Lenovo - Enhance your IdeaPad Y570 Laptop - 086227U - Dusk Black (with USB 3.0): Weekly Deal
It looked perfect, had everything i wanted. Then i look at the screen resolution.... 1366x768
Why do they put such crappy screens in laptops that cost a grand? I don't get it...

Unfortunately it's because manufacturers realize that most customers (unlike you) have no idea what screen resolution means, and will throw their money at whatever gets marketed the best, even though the screen resolution makes more of a difference than any other spec.
Look at the Sager NP5165. I believe it has a slightly better version of the GT 555M (more pipelines, but smaller memory bus). It comes with 1920x1080 too.
Sager NP5165 (be sure to select an OS) -

Depends what you do on your computer. Generally, CPU upgrades are not worth the cost since users will never see a difference between the higher end CPUs and lower end ones. As for hard drive (and memory), usually it's cheaper to upgrade them on your own. If you're a gamer, definitely get the best GPU you can get since those tend to be soldered in and hence non-upgradeable.

For the Sager, I'd say the $20 upgrade for the 500GB hard drive is worth it if you can use the extra space, because it's way less than the cost of buying a new 500GB drive yourself.
Why such crapp screens...
