well, honestly, it's a bit hard to give an advice. Most of b/g cards offer similar performance, depending mostly on the quality of your internal antenna.
Intel PRO has proven itself quite effecient and reliable, yet it has some limitations (which you actually will never come across if you do not plan on hacking other's wifi spots) Intel reliability does not apply to me personally though, i had Pro/Wireless 2200bg which stopped working for no reason.
Broadcom are pretty cheap and most of the budget-line adapters are based on chips from this company. Honestly, i wouldn't recommend it, i've seen enough people having problems with those, usually not due to the flaws of the main chip, but issues with the drivers...
What I likely would go for if I were you is Atheros wifi cards. The company is making very good stuff for quite a long time and have very good reputation.

In terms of prices, ebay is a nice place to get it from. Broadcom alike solutions will cost you about nothing :D with prices starting from something like £4 +delivery. Not sure what about Intel, but should be in the range of £10-15, not more. Atheros should be about £15 or slightly more.

Last advice. When you install the new card and see that it doesnt work, dont rush to return the device. It usually takes a while for a new card to pick signals. For about 2-3 hours it'll be telling you that there is no wifi networks around. I don't know why it happens)))

Atheros, no contest. Waaaay better range than Broadcom and Intel. I was shocked when I tried one. Check eBay.

Atheros all the way... more range,, more speed,,, i'd look into the new AG5008 AGN-draft... i've heard nothing but rave reviews... especially when used in conjunction with new Dlink routers which are based on Atheros chipsets...

if i had some spare $$$ that i had to spend on my wifi that's what i'd be buying... but i want a newer CPU one upgrade just isn't enough.. i want 800 Mhz FSB!
