ok sorry, dumb question but..
why do laptops have a wi-fi switch? Why is so necessary to have it as an external control instead of just disabling through the OS![]()

its quite useful to me.. I can disable it before starting so that it wont search for it till I disable it through OS

My on/off is done without physical switch, I press “Fn” and “F2” I could set it up to not run thru OS but might make harder to start (more steps). The physical switch is a convenience for people who have trouble pressing two keys at the same time and a selling point for the sales person. If I am not using it I do not want to broadcast and let someone find me and do bad things.
