17.0" UltraSharp™ Wide Screen WUXGA (1900x1200) TFT Display with TrueLife™

Does anyone have this screen and if so can you tell me some info about it? Is it worth the £90 increase over the WXGA+? Is it good for games and watching movies? Any screenshots? :D ACcording to dell its amazing and much sharper and higher contrast than a normal wxga

    thanks

I have the WUXGA screen for my Sager NP5790 and I can tell you, it is great!

The colors are vibrant, plenty of room to work with. It is good for gaming but I would recommend playing at a non-native resolution. Movies look great on it. It is amazing, that is all I can say...

My brother has a WUXGA screen on his 17" Inspiron 9400. It looks incredible for movies, but you're not going to be able to run games at that resolution unless you have a really beefy video card. For me, I found the resolution pretty overwhelming under normal usage...while you get a ridiculous amount of desktop space, it makes everything really tiny. Your mileage may vary.

I don't why everyone says the text is too small on the 17'' WUXGA, it's perfectly fine but if you have problems reading the text you can always adjust the DPI.

1920 x 1200 is incredible. Know why? Because I can put all 5 of my IM programs in a row along the side of the desktop. :D

The highest HD is 1920x1080 so it's no problem for 1920x1200 :)

I have the WUXGA on my dell 17" and its frikkin awesome. Especially if you like working on a dark background. Well worth the 90 pound upgrade.
Heck, I would pay 150 pounds for it.

Insane clarity, great constrast ratio. Almost no backlight bleeding.

The DPI adjustment doesn't work properly. Text gets so big the windows seem small, and some software doesn't scale its text or you get some corrupted crap. Buttons and images don't scale, so webpages (most of which are designed for 1024x768) look tiny.

To answer your question comparing it to a plasma or HD-TV. This screen will look way better. Plasma and HD-TV in most cases don't have a resolution that high (only the top end 1080p ones do) and also becasue of eth screen size it doesn't look as clear anyways (each pixel is bigger) but when you compress a huge resolution down to 17" you get really really crisp images nothing else compares. Try looking at a plasma close up and tell me it looks good.

    Thats really apples to oranges.

Try looking at a 17 inch LCD screen from across the room and tell me how much you enjoy that.

I agree with you that it will be incredibly crisp. :)

lol true athough I still think computer screens are far superior to TV's. If you were to keep the same pixel size from a computer monitor and cale it upto a TV size screen it would look amasing although it would cost a fortune which is probaly why they don't do it.

yet TV's are far more expensive... a bigger size must really ump the price of it :S
