well, it seams that I'm very anal about my LCD being perfect. And I've got a new problem for today:

There is a white dot on my LCD. It's not a specific pixel, but like a pin-point about 1.5x1.5 pixels. It's a washed-out spot - very small.

Now, this is the kind of problem I would expect from bad handling of the LCD.. but here's the weird thing.

The white spot only shows up on white-to-light background. When I'm looking at a black picture, it's gone. The darker the image on the screen, the less noticeable it becomes.

Anyone know what this is / a cure for the problem? Is it just the kind of damage you would expect from pressure on the LCD?

Based on what you're describing, it sounds like that's a flawed area of the LCD surface. If you lightly graze your finger over the area, can you feel any raising or roughness? My guess would be it's an area that's roughed up so that it's more opaque than the surrounding screen, so that when a brighter image is shown behind it then it stands out like a sore thumb because not all the light gets through it, but when everything around it is dark and the area behind it is as well, it just looks uniformly black. Not sure there'd be much to do for that, if I'm right, except replace the entire LCD.
