Will 1333Mhz CL9 DDR3 SODIMM automatically run at CL7 when running at 1066mhz?

I have an Asus N73JF with an Intel Core i5 460m. So the Ram is only
clocked at 1066Mhz. I am planning to upgrade the 2x2 gb sticks to 2x4gb.
I have found the 1333Mhz Ram to be cheaper than the 1066Mhz and they should also provide better results with overclocking since i like to run the fsb at 141Mhz instead of 133Mhz.

My Question is what's already in the topic. Will 1333Mhz CL9 Ram (I'm probably
gonna get the Corsair ValueSelect 2x4gb Kit) use the lower CL7 Latency when i run it at 1066Mhz ?

Not necessarily, it might only go to CL8 depending on its settings. But honestly, you'd not notice any difference.

It'll depend on what's set in the stick, and that will depend on the model of the stick. If it's set to drop to CL7 timings at 1066 MHz, then it will, if it's set to go to CL8 or CL9, then that's what it will do.

Depends on SPD timing, most RAM have several timing table that run on different timing on different speeds. To check it either email the manufacturer or if you already have it, run CPU-Z and click on SPD tab.

But I would say timing don't play much role anymore, because most modern CPU have integrated memory controller on the CPU die itself so memory access is fast no matter what the timing

ok thanks for the answers. i could'nt find the SPD timings of the Corsair Ram. It only displays the CL9 timings for 1333Mhz everywhere. But as it doesn't seem to make as big of a difference in speed I'm just gonna buy them and hope for the best.

I would say it will run 1066 CL8.

It depends firstly on the motherboard settings placed into the BIOS. On one hand you could set timming in manual mode or could be preprogrammed with forced const settings, on the other hand timing could be set automatically by SPD.

I thought that without an integrated memory controller timing don't play much role. Over Core 2 Duo platform timing don't worth anything, meanwhile over AMD platform with integrated memory controller timing make the difference. I think integrated memory controller takes the best of memory timing.

Even in a desktop, CAS latency gives zero real world performance benefit.
