Hey can anybody give me advice on whether I can upgrade my laptop from an e6600 to a e7300. Would like to get one to see if I can push 3.2 Ghtz stable but don't want to waste my money :p

if my memory serves me correct, you can not install that processor. The C90S only supports the older generation core 2 duo desktop processors.
So for you the only upgrades are the e6700, and the x6800.

I am not 100% sure, but I sent a Pm to a C90S master, so hopefully he can chime in and tell you for sure

Thanks K-Tron. Was hoping if I got one the C90 wouldn't see difference between it and the older e6700 as it is has same specs just 45nm not 65nm. Also even if the motherboard gave it same power it shouldn't hurt it right?

What do you mean gave it same power? Give what same power?
    And the E6700 is 65nm :)

Lol I know e6700 is 65nm! Was refering to the e7300 being 45nm and if it will be happy recieving same voltage that the M board would supply a e6700. Was a little unclear I guess :D

Its not going to work, different spec that the bios & hardware do not support.

Also not sure but you have to look at FSB compatibility too most of the newer ones have a higher FSB.

Darn thanks vicious. On another note if I pick up a x6800 would I be able to play around with multiplier on the C90S to bring it down preferably so I can enjoy full 1333 fsb? Thanks people

Yeah i thought you did, but it came out wrong as you said 45nm before 65nm ;) Nevermind, not important anyways.

But anyway, the motherboard will most likely do as any other motherboard and supply the voltage according to the CPU's VID. :) It should not be the other way around, or if it is, it's very very rare.

Okay thankyou everyone I have decided to upgrade fans and then pick up a sub 100quid x6800 when one pops up and push 3ghtz plus that way :) . Guess my options were limited!

i believe the c90s turbo gear can overclock the e6600/e6700 processors uo to 2.93Ghz. I think the X6800 overclocks past 2.93Ghz (to 3.2 or 3.3Ghz). The c90s was desighed to use the X6800 so it will be able to use its higher FSB.

How are you upgrading the fans in your laptop?
I think the only fans which outputted higher power were some Delta and EBM 40mm fans.
You have to replace all 4 of them to upgrade your cooling system :D

Yeah get next model up outputs 11,000 rpm over the current top 9,500, otherwise its exactly the same(delta, 12 volts 40mm etc) so should fit perfectly. The e6600 can only reach 2.76 ghtz in OC mode and the e6700 2.93 ghtz. I believe with the x6800 turbo gear doesn't work so I will just use clockgen to go further. 3.2 or 3.3 Ghtz would be quite a feat! :)
