Hello, I am looking to upgrading my POS 15" external monitor with the below monitor but am wondering if my dell notebook will be able to support it at its native resolution (1920x1080).
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4242611&sku=A179-2434
Relevant Dell Specs:
Dell 1420 Vista sp 1, duel core 2.40, 4gig ram, 32bit
Nvidia GeForce 8400M GS
( http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_8400M.html)
I have been looking around for answers but figured I would just ask.
1. Will my laptop which maxes out at 1440x900 be able to output to the monitors 1920x1080?
2. I only have a VGA and s-video port. Is it even worth it with the VGA? I know I can go VGA->DVI or even VGA->hdmi but i know vga is not digital so is using a converter worth it? Isnt the quality just as good as the poorest component (vga here)?
3. Does anyone know of an external DVI or hdmi port I could get so I dont have to use my vga? maybe through my expresscard slot?
Thanks!

Yes, although don't expect to be gaming at that resolution... for nongraphically intensive activities (internet/email/word etc...) even integrated graphics will run just fine as well.

wow, quick replies, thanks
Well, I have my gold plated svga cable I think I will just use. Its a pretty high quality shielded cable so there shouldnt be too much difference with the quality.

Just use VGA, and skip the s-video as s-video is terrible quality. VGA will be just fine, even if changing the signal to a digital, it's gonna cost you much more than it's worth as the original signal is still analoge. VGA gives a nice picture on my 32" lcd-tv, sharpness is very good and colors are just as good. So I doubt you could tell a difference between digital and analoge(vga). I know i can't..
And yes, you will be fine watching movies or doing photoshop, everything but gaming.
Will I be able to support my new monitor?
