    Will it and what is the difference between SATA and SATA2? Its a Seagate Momentus 160gig 7200.2 7200rpm.

    sata is 1.5 Gbps sata2 is 3 Gbps...same cables used though, just higher bandwidth on SATA2

    A sata 2 harddrive will work fine in your xps 1530.
    No notebook harddrive can even run higher than 70mb/sec at the moment, which is not even half of the sata 1 bandwidth.
