    I remember getting lucky and picking up a brand new 240GB ADATA SP550 SSD for £47 new on Amazon just before prices skyrocketed.

    Now that seems to be the going price for a 120GB SSD.

    I think I remember reading it was due to a NAND shortage because of the increased popularity of SSDs, but I don't understand why they can't just produce more, if the demand is there?

    Because high performance nand (such as that used in SSD's) is not an infinitely available resource. ;)
