I mainly play World of Warcraft 1920x1200 max settings. I get 10-40FPS (30 is normal)

    Specs:
    Dell 9300
    6800 Go
    1.86 Centrino
    1gb RAM
    60gb 7200 RPM hd

I *might* upgrade the video card to a 7800gtx (maybe even a 7900 if possible down the line)

I'm thinking about upgrading to 2gb, worth it?

A faster internet will undoubtedly help online gaming, expecially with multiple characters on screen at once. What is your current internet speed?

    4mb / 512kb Lat < 100 on WoW

My problem is with Frames Per Second, which go from 10-40 average of about 30.

The FPS are not going to be affected by more RAM. Your WoW performance is pretty good. If you are going to upgrade your video (and you know that most cannot be upgraded?), I would do it now since the upgrade parts (if Dell actually has the parts for sale) won't be available forever.

untrue. when you enter lagforge, the initial drop of 75fps -> 5fps is dramatically reduced..on my desktop, i go from like 75->50, then it raises back to 75..when i had my powerbook, i went from 512mb ram and got under 10fps in lagforge, and changing the ram to 1.5gb i went to about 20fps in lagforge..

so yea it does work better with more ram.

    pb,out.

The thing to remember is that stepping up RAM wise is never gonna hurt you, and pretty much always gonna benefit you.

As far as performance overall, the concensus says 1->2 is a negligible gain. However that might be different in gaming. I think faster internet will make a large difference when dealing with an online RPG.

I don't really understand the big hooplah about FPS. 30 FPS is fluid motion....this is what television is recorded and broadcast in. Having an excess of 30 FPS...does it make that much of a difference? This is probably a 2d vs. 3d issue. I suppose it's just another way of measuring game performance and visual appeal.

RAM only helps with jittering. It will improve your AVERAGE FPS, not your maximum. In this case, as you are running towards Ironforge, you aren't going to get a big lag spike when running to AH there, your FPS will remain fairly constant throughout.

Bottom line though, if you've got the money to spend, I'd say do it. I run WoW at lesser settings, but still I feel that another 1GB might help, probably moreso for you at max settings than me at medium.

*edit* getting a better vid card will solve all of your problems.
