I have an older computer that I am planning on upgrading. I'm getting rid of everything except the case (obviously), the CD/DVD Drive, the power supply, and the old Hard Drive. The new motherboard that I am buying has only one IDE port and four SATA ports so I want to buy a new SATA hard drive to put Linux on and keep the old IDE for Windows. I do not want to buy another IDE because they are more expensive. So, my question is will the SATA hard drive work with the IDE CD/DVD drive? Or will I have to buy another CD/DVD Drive? Also, will the only one IDE port be enough for both the old IDE drive and the CD/DVD drive?
Thanks

Speedwise you can alwaysuse a IDE/USB Bridge to connect the second drive if needed. -
Starlight5 Yes, I'm a cat. What else is there to say, really?
mariaaskar, it will work. However, I strongly suggest installing OS on any SATA drive. It will be much faster.

Your plan is fine and you don't need anything else. Obviously, to boot the different OS's it sounds like you are going to go into the BIOS to switch which hard drive to boot from.

PS SInce you intend to use older hardware ypu might consider using an Bi-directional SATA<>IDE bridge, that allow you to use IDE drives on an SATA port and vice versa.
Will a SATA hard drive work with an IDE CD/DVD Drive?
