My S96S broke out of warranty recently and I've been exploring different notebook options. I'm pretty sure all the components are fine except the mobo/vid card, so I've been thinking about getting a cheap barebone notebook and scavenging the S96S CPU/HDD/wireless/RAM.
The only thing is that my S96S CPU is a T7300 65nm Merom, and all the better barebones talk about 45nm Penryn compatibility with PM45 chipsets. I'm specifically looking at a MSI GX260. Would my Merom CPU work in the GX260?

PM45 is backward-compatible with all Socket P CPUs, as long as your BIOS accepts it.

Thanks. I also found this post http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=353880&page=2 so I guess it should work

why would you want to bottleneck your new laptop??

You won't ever bottleneck a 9600M GT with the T7300.

To save money.
Will a T7300 (Merom) CPU work in a PM45 chipset?
