I doubt it, but check the warranty.

First off, check the RAM Deals thread to get better prices. Even if you cannot order from those vendors, you'll get a good idea of how much the RAM should cost.

Re: Warranty ==> It should not void your warranty. One catch is that if the RAM goes bad, you'll have you contact the reseller or manufacturer for replacements. The other catch is that if the RAM is the cause of a laptop failure elsewhere in the system (can't really imagine this happening though) you are also out of luck.

    1. Download and check the user guide. Does it describe how to upgrade the RAM? If so, then the upgrade can be assumed to be a user activity.

    2. Notwithstanding the outcome of (1), the warranty will cover the RAM provided with the computer. If you need warranty service then replace the original RAM so that you are asking for warranty service on the computer in the "as supplied" condition.

PS: You will also need to research whether the RAM in that computer is 2 x 512MB or 1x 1GB. The latter is preferable because you then add your own RAM without needing to take anything out.

When you replace a user-replaceable part it has no affect on the actual warranty of the laptop, or any other product for that matter. The parts you replace are not subject to the laptop's warranty, and any damage caused by the replaced part is not covered. This shouldn't be a problem.

    Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.

Think of it like this... If you change the muffler on your car, the car is still under warranty. If you change the alternator on your car, the car is still under warranty. If the alternator over charges the battery and damages it, then the alternator and battery would not be covered.
