Will any IDE DVD/CD drive fit a ThinkPad?

I recently purchased a R61 laptop and didn't opt for the DVD Burner upgrade because of the cost at the time.

However, in the future I would like to replace my CDRW/DVD with a DVD+RW drive.

Will a regular slim drive fit these laptops, or does the ultrabay cause problems.

I honestly do not even know what "ultrabay" means

ultrabay, simply means that the optical drive is removable, either by a spring loaded switch, or by a small screw under the laptop.
You should be able to replace the optical drive without any issues.
The only thing you may have problems with, is finding a drive which has a similar bezel/faceplate, as the one which is on your system.

Chances are you probably don't even need to find a generic drive to replace the thing; I'm sure you'll be able to find a compatible ultrabay unit on ebay or some other third party retailer in due time. Shouldn't cost too much either.
