Will buying laptop now mean Vista won't run as well?

    Hi everybody :)

I don't know that much about computers, just what I've read here or there and spoken to friends about. But I need to pick up a laptop computer and from my limited understanding to get the most out of your computer how it is configured/meshed together overall makes a big performance difference.

So with this in mind my main question is would it better for me (due to increased reliability, performance, and overall smooth functioning) to wait and purchase a laptop when Windows Vista is the offered OS, or will a laptop configured to run smooth on Windows XP (that is Vista compatible for the future) also handle Vista without any noticeable reliability or performance problems should I choose to install Vista in the near future with the idea that Vista will be better designed and configured to make use of dual core processors etc. making the computer faster and more efficient.

Basically, I'd like to get some advice on if buying a laptop with XP now is a mistake if I can wait several months to get one with Vista preinstalled (i.e., configured for Vista).

If u need it now, then buy it now, or else it's worth to wait until santa rosa.

I see no reason why a laptop purchased now would have problems with Vista (I have RC2). I would actually say get an XP machine now, and upgrade the OS to Vista once SP1 comes out.

Vista will work fine if you get a decent enough laptop thats out now, though i believe Vista does require some more processing power. I think it would be driving the laptop a little bit harder than xp would. Also running say the new Aero graphics interface thing Vista has going will most likely be using the graphics card a lot more, which then means you will probably get less battery life out of the notebook compared to when you were running xp.
(this is just my prediction though)

Hardware is going to change for notebooks with chipsets such as Santa Rosa and the new Core 2 Duo cpus, and possibly eventually directx 10 graphics cards (though these will be a while).....hope i make sense!

but as said before if you bought now you should be fine :) but id wait for Service Pack 1 for vista as well, to iron out some bugs.

Any notebook on the market at this point will run Vista, if not with Aero, it will run.

Of course, as time keeps passing, the better the performance specs are, the better Vista will run. Waiting means that better specs come at a cheaper price.

I don't plan on upgrading to vista, and actually would be perfectly happy with Windows 2K. Vista is a system hog, demonstrated by the fact that you must have at least 512 MB of RAM for it to install.

I would also like to get more opinions on this. Would it be worth the wait for Vista to come out when buying the laptop, or it wouldn't matter?
