Ive seen some brand new iMac RAM on ebay and as i want to upgrade my Sony Vaio SVE1512J1EW.CEK will this RAM from an iMac work in my laptop?
Its the same spec = DDR3 1600MHz PC3-12800 204-PIN SODIMM RAM
But does the fact it was in a iMac mean it won't be formatted for Win8 or just won't work?
Also i was advised online my laptop can be upgraded to 16GB but on the Sony site it says the max capacity for my model is 8gb?

That laptop has a single SODIMM which means you can get up to a maximum of 8GB of memory.
All 204 pin SODIMMs are the same AFAIK. However, RAM for Apple products is usually more expensive. Are you getting a really good deal? 'Coz otherwise you would be better of purchasing a 8GB SODIMM on newegg or amazon. -
From what i could gather from the Sony product page, your laptop comes with low voltage DDR3, so it would be best to use low voltage RAM that works at 1.35V, not just 1.5V. (they are referred as DDR3L or Low Power).
If your laptop has only one memory slot (and no soldered memory) then 8GB is the maximum amount available.
Shop around, you might find a better deal than that iMac RAM (cheaper, safer as in clearly compatible voltage wise). -
the imac ram is too much now,
But ill look for a 1.35v DDR3 RAM, its gonna be tough.
Will a normal 1.5v RAM still work in my Vaio laptop? -

but will this 8gb ram work when apparently my max ram is 8gb, so including the 4gb pre-installed, that would = 12gb?
would a 1.5v RAM stick work in my laptop? -

Yea, 1.5v and 1.35v DDR3 are interchangeable. It's just one might save you a barely noticeable amount of battery life.
Will iMac RAM work in a Sony Vaio Win8 laptop?
