The original dv8t ac adapter rating is:
Input: 100-240v 2A 50-60hz
Output: 18.5v-6.5v 120 watt
The one I plan to use for it now is:
Input: 100-240v 3.5A 50-60hz
Output 19.5v-12.3A 240 watt
Will it cause any damage to my DV8T if I use a this adapter now since my orginal one broke? Thanks.

While it is within the ~5% 'allowance' for the output voltage, it still has to have proper polarity of the outputs and the correct/proper physical plug.
How much do you like/love your DV8t? I would tend to buy a new OEM HP power supply if I were you.
If the power supply you plan to use with it isn't a quality (OEM) product, I would be very hesitant to use it for prolonged use without expecting to be buying a new notebook soon.
Back up your data either way...
Good luck. -

Gee, thats pretty pessimistic.
Backing up data? Really, I don't think thats more important now than any other time. You could probably plug 30v of the wrong polarity and the hard drive would still be OK. -

'niff,
with your data you can take any chances you like; with others (or my) data, I would rather be called pessimistic than a fool with no data. -

do NOT use a 19.5V power supply on a laptop that's designed to use a 18.5V one.
Will my other brand laptop's ac adapter work on my HP dv8t?
