My Gateway NX570XL has a media card reader slot. This is the make of it:
Texas Instruments PCIxx12 Integrated FlashMedia Controller
Is it at all possible to update it so it could read SDHC cards?
-
i thought SDHC is same as SD except higher cap.?
-
nope you need a sdhc reader to read sdhc cards (they are not backwards compatible with sd readers.
-
Unfortunately, some devices do not detect SD-HC cards. The most famous example is the Wii.
-
Well that answers my question pretty succinctly.

I had a similar problem with my Dell E1505,
John Ratsey helped me and he told me to use these drivers, and sure enough I was able to use sdhc cards in my lappy.

I hope this helps,

It could be a hardware or an os issue, if ktron's link does not work, then your hardware simply does not support sdhc ( which is common in older devices)
-
Thanks but I'm running Vista so it doesn't look like that driver applies to me.
-
I know theres a firmware/driver update for Ricoh card readers to enable SDHC. Not sure about Texas card readers...
-
By any chance you have the link for that?
Thanks. -
Sorry i cant seem to find it anymore.. i think i read it in the dell section.. never actually tried it.
btw theres other workarounds.. -
No problem, thanks.
And what would be the workarounds?
-
Have you tried the Windows hotfixes yet?
-
I'm running SP1 with all the latest updates, didn't try to read a SDHC yet, I didn't know that I could, I will try it later, thanks.

Here is a link to a Vista driver for the TI reader which supports SDHC.
Here is some discussion of the Ricoh drivers. You can also try the Samsung Ricoh driver - I know it supports SDHC. See this thread.
Microsoft hotfixes for Vista SDHC and XP SDHC.

paper_wastage Beat this 7x7x7 Cube
then probably ur actual hardware cant read SDHC cards even with a firmware upgrade..... (SDHC hardware is different from SD hardware)
get a USB SDHC reader then...
Will new drivers make my media card reader support SDHC?
