i want to upgrade my laptop hard drive when there is a 300GB 7200rpm available, will laptop hard drives still be offered in IDE at that time or does anybody know?

I don't think there are any 2.5" IDE 2.5" HDDs on the market. You'll need to go for a lower capacity HDD. A 100GB is probably the largest 7200rpm HDD you can buy.

It appears that most manufacturers are stopping at 160GB for the PATA interface. Maybe this 200GB Fujitsu could be available in PATA.
