Is it possible there are enough people complaining for them to bring it back?

Maybe a year or longer away? I will wait rather than buying a Macbook Pro...

Any theories on if ANY manufacturer will bring it back eventually (a year +) or not?

No, 16:10 for the most part is dead in notebooks. You can get a used/refurbished notebook with 1920x1200.

    1080p stinks. I love 1920 x 1200 and better yet 2560 x 1600. I hope Apple's iPad 3 convinces manufacturers that people love high resolution.

Rumor has it that the next MacBook Pro will be 16x10, too.

Maybe it will, maybe it won't. But if LCD manufacturers do take note, they're going to produce 3840 x 2160 (16:9) screens. Not 16:10 3840 x 2400. 16:9 panels supposedly cost less per panel than 16:10 units and that trend is not going to reverse any time soon, if ever.

As long as it's higher resolution it won't matter

I'm not too sure about this. The 11" Air and the iMac's are already 16:9. Why would they do continue to do 2 different aspect ratio's?

This I can agree with, as long as there is no net loss of pixels, then it's not so bad. 1440x900 to 1600x900 isn't too bad, just wider. Unfortunately WUXGA and WSXGA+ get gimped by 120 and 150 pixels vertically.

The next aspect ratio I've heard of is 21:9 cinema type. Wow. Just wow as work productivity goes down the drain... ;)

I wouldn't put a single drop of faith in any Apple rumor. So you can forget about those right now.

There is no sign of 16:10 resurfacing; the answer to your question, OP, is no.

Look for a refurb HP EliteBook, Lenovo ThinkPad, or Dell Latitude. Or the current MacBook Pro. Those are your options.

I would have no issue if they would put out a 17.3, or 18.4, 16:9 Retina display........

If Apple really does include 2880x1800 on the next MBP; then the true successor to 1920x1200 will also be 16:10.

Make no mistake. 16:10 is on the way out. Apple is one of the last, if not the last, vendor to have 16:10 and the newer designs they're rolling out (read: Macbook Air) moved to 16:9. Either the next gen is going to be 16:9, or it's going to be Retina 16:9. Not 16:10.

16:10 is an option, but I never see it moving back into mainstream.

16:9 is probably cheaper to produce and they have had people accept it already, so they have no reason to back up to 16:10.

In addition most laymen users would feel at home due to HD media content being based on 16:9. They would be quicker to complain about black bars in the side of the monitor than they would be the loss of pixels.

Since HD media has prevailed most people are now used to the black bars and know it is the varios formats, not the screen, that cause this. There really is no one universal format yet if ever.

The problem is as 720P and 1080P become univeral it then makes for the cheaper screens. Since all OEM's are trying for a price point sale this is where we end up. I just wish the higher end would move back to the better screens.

If you are looking to drop $3000 plus on a laptop it would be nice for the OEM's to have these higher end options available. I'd gladly pay a $500 premium at those price points for a 1920x1200 IPS option. Even if a different model option were needed because of the size format etc. Although it should be easy enough to design a bezzel that could take either a 17.3 1080P or 17.0 1920x1800 etc. with just different bezzel surrounds.

The other huge problem right now is no one seems to even make pannels in this size anymore. For all we know even the new apple may be relying on stock that had already been produced. As computer manufacturers no longer order these and production lowers it rasies the price of the pannels as well. Just a huge vortex that the 16:10 is being swallowed into.............
