So my laptop's ( Samsung R540 ) hard drive is getting repaired and in the mean time I want to upgrade the RAM. It currently runs on 3GB RAM ( 1 GB stick, 2 GB stick ) which a friend's friend installed for me a while back.
I want to know if :
a) Desktop DDR3 RAMs differ with that of notebooks/laptops.
b) Would this run on my laptop? Buy the ADATA XPG 4GB DDR3-1600MHz Gaming Series Memory at TigerDirect.ca
I'm planning on putting two of those in.
c) If you know of any better/cheaper RAM sticks I can put it, feel free to share!
THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME![]()

Those are desktop memory chips and will not fit in your computer. You're going to want to get SODIMM sticks like these.
Buy the Crucial 8GB Memory Module Kit at TigerDirect.ca -
Thank you so much!

As Greg said, you want to look for laptop memory that's 204-pin and DDR3. Crucial is a safe brand, though I'd buy whatever's on sale. Lowest USD prices I've seen for well-known brands at 4GB is about $19.

How's this one? Buy the Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x 4GB) DDR3 Laptop RAM Kit at TigerDirect.ca
Oh and is the website reliable ? (tigerdirect.ca) -

The website is fine (but it's a ripoff...
).
See:
Corsair Vengeance 8GB 2X4GB DDR3-1600 SODIMM CL9-9-9-24 1.5V Dual Channel Memory Kit - Corsair - CMSX8GX3M2A1600C9
And if that isn't a good enough deal for you, order from here:
See:
Corsair Vengeance 8GB DDR3 1600MHz SODIMM Kit (2 x 4GB) at Memory Express
use the 'Price Protection' or 'Uber Price Beat Guarantee' and give them the first link and you'll get the same RAM for $44.99 (plus Delivery and GST) - a savings of an additional 25% of the difference.
A little better than $68.99, right? -
Where have you people been all my life

Will this DDR3 RAM be compatible with my notebook?
