I have a zv5000 ( not the same one as in my signature ) it has an amd athlon xp-m socket 754 its a 62 watt processer.

    Right now i have an athlon xp-m 3000+ AHN3000BIX3AX

    Upgrade to mobile athlon 64 2800+ AMD2800BQX4AX

Right now im concerned that because the cpu i want to upgrade to is 35 watt vs the old one is 62 watt. the main reason for upgrade is the 32 bit athlon is hotter running and slow and the cheapest athlon i can find is that one. anyways there both 130nm so it should work what do you guys think?

    I don't think there are common chipsets/sockets for 32bits and 64bits cpus.

I don't know for laptops but for desktops, the XP 3000 and 64 2800 are similar for their performances.

I am not sure, but I would think that you could upgrade all of the way up to the 3700+ 2.4Ghz processor.
I have a 3200+ in my Mitac (voodoo M855) and it runs pretty warm and it has a big copper heatsink.
(I would test an athlon xp in there for you to test, but I dont think I have an athlon xp) _ I will go look.
I think the tdp of the athlon line is 65 watts throughout the 754 line, but I could be wrong on that.

I would post a wanted ad in the buy and sell section and see if you can get a cpu for cheap.
I would not be surprised if you can get a 3200+, for like $20 or so.

Good luck, I hope it works.
Ket us know if it does.

Other models of this laptop came with athlon 64's but they came with desktop versions. Also this cpu is faster by .2ghz twice as big of a l2 cache and its 64 bit. plus im using almost half the energy so less heat.
