    Will this cpu work on my laptop?

    i have an clevo p870dm-g which has upgrade-able internals
    my specs are
    z170 chipset
    i7-6700k
    16gb Ram ddr4
    Gtx 980m 8gb SLI
    2x 2tb sshd barracuda hard drive x1 256 m.2 Samsung ssd


    im trying to find out if i can upgrade my cpu to an i7-6900k

    nope, 6900K uses a different socket, so the CPU is physically incompatible with the socket in your laptop :)

    You *can* fit a 9900K with some modding (a custom BIOS and CPU pad masking) but the stock P870DM heatsink can't really handle it so a 8700K (6 core with hyperthreading) or 9700K (8 core) are more suitable

    It can kind of handle a 8700K (with a BIOS mod)
    I believe 6700K is the max it can handle on the stock BIOS, as I don;t believe it ever got kaby lake support, and its not much of a upgrade. So much for "upgradable internals"

    Aa subtle endorsement for finding a reseller that is a Prema Partner. I don't recall the specifics and of what models (DM, DM2, DM3, TM1, etc.), but the Prema Partner laptops are able to go further than plain Clevo stock.
