It's the Dell E178WFP 17" monitor. My desk is only about 15" in depth and I'm not sure how that would work out. I need a screen to attach to my new MacBook. Thanks in advance.

The vertical angle of the LCD panel should be adjustable such that the monitor will only require the space needed for the supporting stand and nothing more.

According to this page the depth is just under 6" (15cm). That's probably the size of the base, which can't be too narrow or there will be instability. So that only leave just over 9" in from of it for the computer.

However, will you be putting the monitor behind or to one side of the computer? Are you planning to use an external keyboard? If not, the top of the notebook's display may obscure the bottom part of the monitor's screen.

Most monitors (and LCD TVs) can be fitted to an adjust arm fitted to the wall or clamped to the table instead of using the monitor's own base. This might help you fit everything. Alternatively use an external keyboard in front of the monitor and put the computer to one side.

Thank you for the quick reply. I will be using an external keyboard and will put the MacBook to the left using it as a second screen. My biggest concern is that the monitor might be too close to my eyes and it won't be comfortable. Although, my head will not be on top of the desk, so I'll probably have more than 9" of room.

Thanks for the clarification. I think you will be OK. If the screen feels a bit close then you will probably tend to sit back a little with the keyboard close to the front of the desk. 17" notebooks are no more than 12" from the front of the palm rest to the screen and people are happy with those.
