I'd like to buy a Dell Studio XPS 13 and upgrade the HDD to an 80GB Intel X25-M. Will this work? Will there be any bottlenecks that prevent the SSD from performing at full speed?

Also, I am a bit unclear on the swapping process. I understand the physical part is very easy, but I don't know how to back up and restore an entire hard drive. Could somebody please explain this, or link me to an explanation?

    Thanks for reading.

That upgrade will work, Studio XPS 13 has the latest components therefore you don’t have t worry about bandwidth bottlenecks.

Since you are buying a new computer, no need to backup anything. Just do a clean Windows installation with the supplied installation disks. Since 80GB is not much, I don't recommend having a media direct partition or a restore partition.

If you laptop comes with the operating system, which it should, a fresh install will be fine.
If your laptop does not come with an operating system disc, you may want to use acronis trueimage or another cloning software, to clone the operating system onto your ssd.

Thanks for the replies. I didn't realize the disks would be included - that makes things a lot easier. But what are the partitions you are referring to? If they are helpful I might still want to make them, since I use very little hard drive space.

BTW, PhoenixFX, what is that laptop in your avatar? It looks awesome!
