I am highly considering the Alienware Area 51 m5750 laptop.
I just wondering if I can upgrade the graphics card to support Direct X 10 when it comes out. :D I am planning to do that and upgrade the CPU to Core 2 Duo. Thanks

Not possible to do that. Don't buy a laptop and plan on upgrading the card. DX10 has huge power requirements and probably won't show up in laptops for some time.

Actually, that laptop uses an MXM type III slot, so if DX10 cards use that slot, you may be able to upgrade. If you go for an X1800 though, you won't feel the need to upgrade any time soon.

also, from what I seem to be hearing, all DX10 cards will not play DX9 games. so if you get it go ahead and throw your current game collection into the trash. now in the first year or so after DX10 comes out you can expect DX10 games to also have support for DX9 vid cards.

Are u crazy?? Of course dx10 cards will play dx9 games. their not just gonna throw out thousands of games, and make them all over again just cuz a new dx is invented. U realize that today we can play dx7 games on a 7900gtx? And when did dx7 come out...?

wow I play way too many dx9 and much older games for me to even look at dx10 now. Thanks for bringing this to my attention, as I am now so very glad I purchased a decent dx9c card. I dont know what I would do if I couldnt play such retro games as Starcraft, risk, aoe2, empire earth 1 and 2, UT, UT2003, diablo 2 expac, etc....

Ur right, dx9 and lower is being faded out, but it will not be right away, and tehre will still be some ways to have it compatible, tho at some costs. I wasjust saying that dx9 games were not gonna end in 1 fell swoop, its gonna be over a longer period of time.

I would really like the latest Direct X10 High Def Graphics caRD WITH SHADER MODEL 4.0 AND BLAH BLAH.....It would really suck to not experience that. Hopefully the mXm Slot III is the right type for a direct x10 notebook gpu..I sure hope so...
    Thanks for the info btw..
