    Hi guys -

I'm looking to replace a 7 year old Acer with something new.

I've been eying the Samsung R580 and the MSI A6200.

The Samsung has 512mb of dedicated graphics as well as Win 7 64. The MSI has integrated along with Win 7 32.

Now, I mainly just surf the internet, but also watch the occasional video, play a game ( rarely - 1x per year ), MS Word, along with some bicycle related training software.

Given my usage requirements, do you guys think I'll notice any difference between the two machines?

    Thanks!!

I'd get the Samsung. It will future proof you purchase. You never know, in a year you may want to play games. This can play some games on medium, most on lowish settings. Theres no con of buying a laptop with nice video card. here's a nice review on this laptop: Notebookcheck: Review Samsung NP-R580-JS03DE Notebook

They call it an "i5 all rounder"

Sure there is: inferior battery life.

Unless that is a concern I agree with j0KER, however.

Yep thats the only con. But most of the time unless its a really powerful GPU its only 15-20 minutes less of battery life.

A discrete GPU makes a much bigger difference in battery life in smaller notebooks since they that consume less power (ie. a 3W difference in a 10W system vs. 30W system).

Both should perform fine for your usage. That said I tend to agree with the others. And buying above need is not such a bad idea. Leaves some room for the future.

    yep, go for samsung.

Since you can afford both and battery life doesnt seem to be the only concern, future proofing is a good idea.
