Just installed Windows 7 on a new OCZ Vertex 60 GB

For anyone looking at an OCZ Vertex 60 and wondering about being enough space...

    SSD Space
    Unallocated space: 59.6 GB
Available space after installing Windows 7, Avast Home, Open Office and Firefox: Around 53 GB

I did delete some unnecessary windows components (tablet features etc) but compared to Vista, I was amazed the operating system alone didn't take more space. Probably about 54/55 GB available for all programs and files.

    SSD Performance
On the Windows Experience Index, the SSD scores a 7.3. My next highest score was the Ram at 5.8 and the highest possible score is 7.9.

Startup is quite a bit faster with W7 and Vertex than with my WD Scorpio 5400RPM drive and Vista. I definitely don't feel the need to leave and come back while computer is starting up (not enough time). Although not instantaneous, maneuvering around the desktop and opening folders and files is also noticeably faster.

    Windows 7
Everything but bluetooth worked on my Latitude E6400 right after installation of Windows 7. My dell bluetooth travel mouse did work as far as moving the cursor but scroll wheel and extra buttons wouldn't work until installing the bluetooth drivers. With 6 cell battery, it's telling me I will get 4 hours and 28 minutes. Not sure how accurate but when I had Vista and a regular hard drive, I know it stated 3 hours and change.

    OCZ
I initially received a Vertex without any firmware. The RMA process took about 3 weeks (probably should expect at least a 2 week turnaround). The trouble with getting a working drive was the only downside in the whole upgrade process. I was anxious to tryout the new drive and get it up and running so the delay was painful.

    Conclusion
My first impressions of both Windows 7 and Vertex 60GB are extremely positive. W7 takes up very little of my precious drive space and is very snappy. System responsiveness has improved noticeably (don't have exact before/after numbers but night and day improvement). If the battery life is accurate, I will see a nice boost in that area as well. Despite a bumpy road with returning the first HD, I'm happy with the final results and would still choose a Vertex if given the choice again.

I'm sure my post is more of the same for most readers here but hopefully helpful for anyone wondering about SSD/Windows 7 compatibility with Latitude E6400 or wondering if a 60GB drive is big enough for their needs.

Whew! Well thank God for this thread...after seeing the bashing that seems to have just strarted in the SSD thread it's good to see a thread like this one. I too am happy with my Vertex. OCZ FTW!
