wow, MS is promising a lot I really hope they deliver!
-
Somebody pinch me! My next notebook should be something truly special.
-
Is windows 7 similar to Xp?
I dispise vista, so I hope 7 is like XP.
I personally dont need the b.s. shiny interface.
K-TRON -
No it is similar to Vista since it uses the same kernel. XP is seven years old, making it like XP would be a step backwards.
-
Yes K-Tron, I like XP myself but 7 looks like the real deal...what .Vista shoulda been.
-
It may ship with a shiny UI, but that can be changed very very easily.

but still, happy to know the steps further that win7 does. -
If you feel that way about .Vista then you should be doing back flips when you get your hands on Windows 7.

Hi.
More MS bull, like Vista was optimized for readyboost! , they can keep Windows 7 , do they think people want to continualy spend money on new operating systems, and new software bacause it`s not compatiable.
Regards
John. -
Readyboost wasn't meant to be optimized, it was just an additional feature that really didn't go anywhere. It did help if you only had 1GB of RAM with which to begin, but anything most than that any gains were negligible. SSDs are an entirely different thing.

first: win7 looks to be cheap to free for vista users
second: yes, i really love win7.. looks like a good fusion of the technology with requirement-reduction to xp. best of both worlds. i have some ui-issues with win7 right now, but no biggy..
third: win7 will be close to 100% compatible to everything that runs on vista, due to only minor changes in architecture.
fourth: the incompatibilities that vista had where all hw-vendors faults or buggy software with security risks in. it was hard to draw that line, but in the end, we have a much better base quality of software thanks to it. -

Hi.
I hope that`s not just for retail owners and us oem`s get the shaft!

John.

Also, everybody, the purpose of this thread is to discuss optimizations for SSDs in Windows 7. If you just want to discuss Windows 7 generally, or whether Vista and/or Windows 7 is good, bad, ugly, or whatever, please go to the Windows forum instead... there's a big Windows 7 thread over in the Windows forum for debating that kind of stuff. -

well, this will give manufacturers the fire under their pants to get SSD's into the mainstream.
-
not that anybody ever called me an expert in memory design but...
SSDs are a trickle down of mainstream memory technology. They are Flash memory, which has been available for quite some time, only faster and designed around a controller.
If anything brought the price of SSDs, it is ipods and digital cameras.
as long as people keep buying, they'll keep making them. but the good thing is people don't have to be buying SSDs for their prices to come down. they just need to keep buying flash memory products
now, as far as the topic of the thread..
W.*.F.? if they can add extra commands, why can't do that with SP updates on Vista? I doubt (though do not know positively) it's deep inside the kernel and thus can't be changed... -

so the advances and infrastructure in one drive the other -
LOL. Oh, the good ol' days.
-
Win7 is supposed to be a better Vista, without the annoyances, bugs and slowdowns. Win7 is supposed to be able to run very well on low powered netbooks.
Vista is too bloated for the features you get. -
Win7 is supposed to be the OS that Vista should have been
