I have a MSI pr200 santa rosa (12.1 inch), using 4 GB and a T7700 (2.4GHz). A while back I replaced the original HD with a Kingston 128GB SSDNOW (duplicating the disk with the supplied software). I was running Vista 64, no problems. Recently I got hold of a Windows 7 family pack (3 upgrades), and planned to upgrade the machine to Windows 7. After cleaning some stuff windows 7 didn't like, and enlarging the first partition to get over 20GB free, I tried to upgrade, but got an error unfortunately.
Knowing that windows needs a fresh install one in a while  I decided to do a clean install.
But this clean install doesn't work either, and keeps hanging in 'extracting files'. Once I got a bit further, but Windows 7 was never stable. Both the 32 bit and 64 bit refuse to install.
Then I put the original HD back in (160gb wd), and the installation went smooth.... And win7 is running perfectly at the moment (apart from a unrecognized SD-controller). Beats me, is the ssdnow defective or what?

Yes, there is a good chance that the SSD is defective. If you search the web you will see similar things.

    Warranty?

Is there a tool to test an ssd? Still strange, cause Vista64 did install ok on the ssdnow (forgot to mention, one of the last things I tried on the ssd). It's now sitting in an external case, awaiting some beating I hope :)

btw, found nothing similar on the web...

Btw running an Intel X25-M now, in AHCI mode: no problems whatsoever. Everything else unchanged. So the kingston has an issue with AHCI, not MSI....
Write performance is comparable, especially for larger block sizes. Read speed is about double the Kingston values according to ATTO :)

I believe there may be an option for "Enhanced Sata Mode". AHCI I thought was technology solely for Rotational disks. (Regular Harddrives)

On my pr200 it's AHCI enabled or disabled only....
