I bought a Compaq with Basic Windows Vista.
I want to install Windows XP on it.
I have a CD from my old Gateway desktop with Windows XP on it.
    The Cd says
    -Windows XP Home Edition
    -Version 1.1
-For distribution only with a new Gateway PC

Can I use this CD for my Compaq that is already has Windows Vista installed to get Windows XP?

Is it safe and will it work

Doubtful. Most OEM installation CD's (like Dell) do a search for a Dell BIOS info string and wont' install if it doesn't match.
