    Why not just upgrade both?

You said nothing about budget in the original post. The more information you give, the better the help can be when you come to a forum asking for help, advice, or suggestions.

If money is the issue, then do what someone already posted and go with the faster processor.

I agree with the above posters...go with the faster processor. I doubt you'll see much of a performance difference between 3gb and 4gb. In my opinion 2gb is usually plenty for a notebook. Depending on how much memory intensive programs you are running it may help otherwise...check how much ram you're using in the task manager and figure out whether you need the extra memory or not.

Always spend the majority of your budget on the non-upgradeable parts; in other words, buy the CPU.

I have vista ultimate 64 with 3GB of memory and I have rarely hit 45% of capacity. I have T9300 which is a fantastic processor. Operates very cool as well.

I have another option, why dont u upgrade neither and use the money for other things. I think T8300 is more than adequate as well.

Get a T9300 w/ 64bit Vista. Even if you dont have 4gb ram, you can always get some later on. This will save you from doing a clean install later on

Are you saying a T9300 processor makes a clean install useless and/or unnecessary?

No, If he gets T9300 w/ 32bit vista he has to do a clean install to switch to 64bit later on. If he starts off with 64bit even if he only has 2gb ram, he can go to 4gb without having to do another clean install.
