Does the wireless display have to be installed on a notebook from the factory or is it possible to enable it later? I would like to enable it on a Vostro 3550 after installing an Intel 6230 instead of the current Dell wireless adapter.
The CPU should support it, and also the new adapter.

Was just looking into this here. :)

I think it is working, but I don't have any WiDi TV adaptor to test.

    CPU: i5-540M
    WiFi: Intel 6200
(This generation chipset would be limited to outputting 720p over WiDi)

So even though the laptop came without the preloaded software you can enable it later?

It seems to be enabled, but I can't actually test it as I don't have a WiDi receiver.

@Razor2: what happened with your laptop? Did you manage installing the card?

You just need to have an Intel processor, an Intel Wifi card, install the Intel WiFi driver, the WiDi driver and an Intel WiDi compatible display and it should work. Can't test either, don't have an Intel WiDi compatible display.
