wow those are expensive wireless upgrades. I would spend the $30 to get the 3945 card. The 4965 would be a nice upgrade, but its not worth $80.

I agree, but also don't think the default is that bad. The Intel does have better range. As far as N goes, it is just coming in and is not even standardized yet. It offers better range and faster through put. But let us be honest with each other, I say over 90% of us 99% of the time we are just using WiFi for Internet. Increased bandwidth will have no effect on that the G already is faster than Internet connection. And those with Home networks how often are you transferring large files that it would make a difference?

I would keep the stock Dell 802.11g card unless you have a network at home, school, work, etc... that will use 802.11n. You will have another year or two before n really catches on (remember that the standard has not been finalized yet and won't until the end of 2008). So I think 80 bucks is too much.
The only benefit the Intel 3945 (802.11a/g) has is that it supports a frequency (5GHz) that is not as crowded as traditional wifi, phones, and other wireless technology uses (2.4GHz). Its drawback is that range will suffer slightly because higher frequencies are absorbed more easily by solid objects like wall and floors. Same goes with n, but n supports 2.4GHz as well. -
thanks very much guys for all the help and if I go with this laptop I will definetly keep the default one
