Hello!
I've had a discussion about my Atheros wirless card.
The short version:
I tried to upgrade from Atheros AR9285 to a Intel 5100AGN, it did not work. On a clean install the setup freeze just before finishing. Now, can this be cause it is a 'Toshiba branded' card? Just like the 4965AG which does look for a ThinkPad BIOS
Long version:
I've got two diffrent cards, Intel 5100ANG and Intel 4965AG. I'm now running on a Atheros AR9285 which many users here have problems with and drops the connection speed after heavy downloading (a 16GB of download, started with 1.2MB then after about 1 and a 1/2 hour went down cirka 510 KB. I've then restarted and this time the download contiunied at 1.4MB.
Now I want to buy the 5300 if it is going to work, with my new system. It is kinda cheap.. The thing is I've got a nForce Chipset, and far as I know I have not seen a nForce user with Intel wirless... or I'm wrong?
I've personally think it is the 'branded cards wich cause this problem, but what do you think?
For the reason why I've created this therad here is because my other tropcis got simply off-tropic because I did not had any idea like to buy a new card.

With my Everex I had a nForce chipset and originally a Atheros card. At first the intel card would not work but if you clear cmos it releases the atheros resources and you should be fine. With any nForce chipset you should always clear cmos first.

INTEL WIFI LINK 6300 633AN.HMWWB HALF HEIGHT MINICARD VPRO ENABLED RETAIL / MULTICOM
I've also have rom for a 3th antenna mod, as I allready did that when I tried my 4965AG.
I think I'll leave the 5300 out and go for 6300 instad. What do you guys think? -
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
-
I have seen that therad before, that is just what Intel says, I've need some feedback from users which actually use a 6300 or 5300..

I am very happy with my 6300. What more can I say? I do get very good reception but that is compared to a 5100.
-
That is good. Because there is cases where I need to connect to a network with a very poor signal. I'll go ahead and buy the 6300 then. The most important thing for me is that the singnal most not drop.

So, here is a update:
I've just ordred a Intel 6300. Link few pages above. -
Okay, UPDATE:
I've got my wireless card. Removed the CMOS battery and installed it, when I've booted my laptop it said that I had to set time and date. This means my CMOS was sucessfully rested, but my laptop still does not reorginze my brand new 6300.... Any fast replies will be apricihated as I do not want take my laptop back apart unless I have to. I've also did a 3th antenna mod, simply I added a 3th antenna. However, any suggesions? -

Are you sure the wireless card is genuine and working? Do you have a link/photo to the card?
-
Yup I'm quite sure it is genuine. Bought from a trusted seller, one of Norways larges PC companies which also is the only one who sells Sager, which is in Norway known as Multicom.
Here is a little update btw:
While trying to install driver, at the end my whole system freezed. Now INTEL PRO/SET WIRLESS Framework crashes at startup.
EDIT:
Here is a picture from the actually computer, connected to internet with LAN cable:
EDIT:
This card did not work with my ThinkPad either, so I think it is a BIOS limitation or something like that. Does not seems like even NBR knows anything about this...
The 6300 was listed as unknown device before the installation of driver. I'll now uninstall it and try to install the driver manually.
Also, I've just reinstalled my OS to avoid any confilct with drivers from my old card.
EDIT2: Tried to install another version of the x64 driver, no result.
EDIT3: I've reinstalled my OS again and installed this time the driver from the CD I got with the new card, result? same as before, the setup freezed at the little end.
