Hope you can offer some help on upgrading the internal Intel 3945 ABG wireless card to the newer Intel 4965 AGN card to overcome a compatibility issue I have accessing Network storage devices from the present card through by Netgear DG834N wireless router.

I know I could use a PC Card, but the new 'N' cards stick out quite a long way, and I need this slot for a bluetooth PC Card.

The laptop is a Toshiba A100-01G - PSAARE. I have opened up the hatch on the base where I expected to find the mini pci card, but I can't see it at all.

I have followed this guide for a slightly different model which looks identical http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/Toshiba-Satellite-A105/remove-motherboard-1.htm.

Any one able to point me in the right direction to find the card, or is it a full dismantle required?

    thanks

    Justin

Found it, beneath the keyboard, a little hairy prizing the trim beneath the screen away to access the screws that retain the keyboard.

Despite fitting a 3rd antenna (the 4965 has 3 connections instead of 2 on the 3945), my wireless monitor says I am only conected at 54 mbps despite 270 mbps being enabled. I have read elsewhere this is a glitch in Windows, but I now have Vista SP1, and so I thought it would have bben resolved.

    Any ideas?

Yes, I upgraded to that 4965 when new and recenty the 5300 for 3 wire units and 3-wire wire sets are available on ebay. I also had to test a 5100 and it is a perfect drop in for simple 2 wire installations and all work fine in Vista x64 SP1. I noticed for sure the 2 newer 5300 and 5100 display in Vista as 54 but router displays 270, so it is a Windows thing and I didnt worry about it. The older 4964 3 wire displayed s 270 and actually worked better then the 5100 2 wire in N modes on busy routers.
