Which brands have notebooks with consistent quality screens, meaning if I see a Brand X model Y notebook with 14.1" WXGA+ and then I purchase a Brand X model Y notebook with 14.1" WXGA+ I can be assured that the screen will look very similar.

From the discussions out here, Dell, HP and Lenovo appear to not meet this criteria. What about Fujitsu and Sony?

Sony's screens are arguably the best other than apple's. I've never seen a Sony FZ screen that looked anything less than fantastic.

I think a lot of these new poor screens are Matte screens. For reasons unknown manufacturers seem incapable of making a good matte screen these days.

LED backlit screens were developed to provide the most accurate colors for professionals. Several ultra-portable laptops such as Sony SZ Premium and Dell XPS m1330 provide LED backlit screens. These screens also consume less power, but are significantly more expensive(hence, why it's more available on these 13.3" laptops). There are a couple desktop monitors with led backlighting, but the price makes it readily unavailable to the regular consumer, unless you're just plain rich.

I disagree my LG Philips matte screen is awesome and my laptop is only 1 month old. In fact I would get matte screen over glossy screen on my next laptop.

There only a few actual manufacturers of LCD's, that supply the screens to all manufacturers. None of the 14" WXGA+ screens are actually that good. They suffer mostly from the same things (poor viewing angles). The AUO ones seem to have light leakage issues, more than what's normal.
