I am currently entering colege of engineering where they recomend to have workstation graphics cards. I am not a huge gammer as in needing to play in highest settings, but I play new games like BF2. My question is if I can play games in medium settings with a high end workstation card like the ATI Fire GL V5200?

BF2 will play perfectly fine even on highish settings on the V5200. You MAY get random studdering now and then, but not often at all, if you even get it.

yeah the higher end quadro's seem to game just fine. I dont know what youll be doing on your lappy, but I have a x1600 that handles AutoCADD 2005 and 2006 2d and 3d at work with aplomb. It has no issues with any 3d drawings I do. What engineering field are you entering?

I'll be entering Aerospace Engineering, so I'll be desining planes and engines. I really don't know much about CADs so I don't know if workstation cards are really needed, but they were recommended by the technollogy center of my college.

If you are able to contact the tech center of the college, you can possibly ask them if its easier for you to purchase the consumer version of the FireGL(X1600). I run Solidworks and CAD programs, and the X1600 hasnt stuttered a bit.
