Hey guys,
So I've just ordered a new laptop for work (programming) and gaming - fangbook iii bx6 with i7 5700HQ. specs wise its awesome (16gb ram, 256 ssd, 1tb hard, i7, 965m) for just ~$960.
BUT, I've been reading quite a few complaints of the 5700hq BSOD'ing with some games and virtual machines so I am super worried. Specially since as a programmer I will be probably be running many VM's and quite often too.
Sooo, should I cancel my order? Is this an issue only with SOME 5700HQ's or with all of them?
Thanks in advance.

Links to the complaints you've read about it?

Happens in Clevo laptops... I think the fangbook is probably a version of it... Prema has a fix and BIOS fix has been issued by resellers too or should be soon so you should be fine.. Try it and if not return it..

got an w230ss(different clevo laptop, thought bios are from XMG i guess, don't know if it's just the skin or something else), pretty much all bsods were due to drivers, tried running a few VMs and seem to be alright, but nothing too demanding. As with any new laptop/computer purchase, i'd say you should run some stress tests for a day or two straight, give it some hell so it doesn't crap out at the worst moment due to some imminent failure/instability that could've been caught early on.

If it helps, any BSOD's are highly unlikely related to the CPU. Out of every possible component that could fail in a computer (desktop or laptop), it is almost never the CPU that fails.
In general, it's rare for BSOD's to be caused by hardware in general. And if they ARE caused by hardware, it is most likely caused by faulty RAM; followed by some failing component on the laptop motherboard. In most cases, a BSOD will result from some software configuration error... usually bad drivers, misbehaving programs, etc.
So if it helps at all, I'd say go ahead and buy the laptop that you want. Because in all likelihood, whatever BSODs that people experienced will have nothing to do with the hardware itself; especially since a generic ODM laptop lilke a Fangbook generally uses off-the-shelf components and chipsets that can be found in multiple different laptop models from multiple different manufacturers -
There are many for 5700hq. Specific to the fangbook are:

I haven't recieved mine yet. Also, not all resellers have issued a fix. Since cyberpower is a relatively small company, and the BX6 series aren't all that comman, I'm not sure if they will even bother to.
Same situation with the gigabyte p55k which was my second choice (it too had the 5700hq). I contacted gigabyte and they said that the bios fix for the issue hasn't been released yet and they couldn't give me a timeline of when it would be.
This model is from MSI according to CyberPower. And the BSOD issue is a known prevalent bug.
This BSOD apparently is because of a hardware defect in the 5700HQ. MSI released a BIOS update to resolve the issue in some of its models that have this processor. Some manufacturers haven't released a BIOS update to resolve the issue (gigabyte mentioned above). And CyberPower doesn't even have a download page for drivers/BIOS on their website so I doubt they will release one.
Worried about my new purchase - 5700HQ (fangbook iii bx6)
