Hey all,
I've been looking into upgrading my cpu. Now the T8300 is the best bang for the buck for sure. But the T9300 is tempting, though I'm going to guess I wouldn't really notice any difference between the two in gaming other than in the odd game that really benefits from extra cache?
But my other question is this. With the newer games coming out that are just killing gpu's with their graphics capabilities... Is it even worth it to upgrade the cpu in this thing when I may need to get a new laptop in a year or something to just keep the ability to play new games decently? $250 isn't a ton of cash, but it's also 1/5th of how much this thing cost me, so would be about the same for a new laptop more or less.
And with the new external GPU solutions coming out that would allow the upgrading of graphics cards... It's a tough choice as well I usually don't play a lot of new games, there are a few with top notch graphics engines that I am really wanting to play like Diablo3 and Fallout3.
So what do all of you think? And sorry for the long kinda rambling post.

Yeah, there are older games that are graphically demanding as well. But newer games are getting pretty brutal as well.
Not worth in = Not worth it? Just want to make sure there.
And wow... I thought they were putting the current high end gpu's in those external dealies for gamers? I mean who else would buy them? And why would a gamer buy one if an internal card was still faster?
And in thinking about it, I'm wondering how long I'd be able to get decent gameplay out of my 8800... As long as things don't really look worse it's really not too bad. I have to admit I want to try and get as long out of this thing as I can, lol. -

The CPU is important and can make a difference. An example is me and another member on NBR. I have an 8700M while he has an 8800M. I have a T7700, and he has a T5550. That's 2.4 GHz versus 1.83 GHz. Even though his GPU is much better than mine, I get better performace out of games because of my CPU. In other words, his CPU is a big bottleneck for him.
In your case however, the T9300 is only slightly better than the T8300. I do agree with Nirvanna that the $250 is not worth it. Besides, the T8300 is a great processor and you will get great performance out of it in games. -
Though most games demand a 2-2.2GHz C2D, as a recommended spec.... -
Ah, for people with integrated graphics. That makes a bit more sense.
And if I can get like 5 years out of this thing, perhaps it would be worth it to upgrade the cpu. As it's kinda slow as it is and by the time I really need to upgrade it'll be really slow. And it would be only $50 a year over the life of the computer. Guess something for me to think about as I go along.
I currently have the T5550 that came with my system. The $250 is to go from that to a T8300. I was thinking of spending the extra $70 to go to a T9300, but for most things I don't think I'd be worth it to go from the 8300 to the 9300. -
-
Oh wait up! I didn't realize you have T5550, I thought you were asking to upgrade to T9300 from T8300.
NOW, YES GO FOR T9300 BY ALL MEAN!!! -
lol, yeah... Forgot I wasn't posting in the Gateway section where people know the system specs >.<
Sorry for the confusion. Ok, so now that that's cleared up...
You'd say the 9300 is worth the $70 more than the 8300 for only 100MHz more speed an extra 3mb or L2? -
Yes it worth it. I didn't get T9300 on my 5793 because I was gonna upgrade to X9000 by myself.
-
For $70, yea go for it. I thought it was $250 from T8300 to T9300.
Worth it to upgrade my CPU?
