A few questions for those with experience and expertise on this:

-Is it worth upgrading from a P8400 (2.26GHz) to a T9800 (2.93GHz)? I do a bit of work with videos/photos and of course games. My GPU is a 9800m GS.

-How much should I be paying for a 30% CPU improvement if it is in fact worth it? I think I'll sell my P8400 after I upgrade.

-My bottleneck right now seems to be my CPU in most games, particularly those with physics engines. Would it still be the case?

-What's the heat difference from 25W to 35W under load/idle?

-What stable overclocks have people achieved on a T9800 or similar?

    Thanks in advance!

Go ahead and do it! You will not regret it... Especially Video/photo processing needs raw CPU power.

I did an upgrade from T9400 to T9900 and so far it has been awesome! Paid $450 for T9900 and sold T9400 for $200. Net cost: $250. (This was in June 2009).

If you are competent at disassembly/reassembly you can spend a couple hundred on a mobo for your lappy from one of the similar models that supports quads and get a Q9200 for another couple hundo from Ebay/

@ramgen: Sounds reassuring! I think I'll get the cheaper version of the t9800 for $250 all total, and a p8400 can probably sell for a bit under $100, so about $150 all total.
(OT: I've got a bunch of friends in Cornell--nice school. What year are you?)

@sgilmore62: I've actually debated that because I love the chassis and mini OLED screen on the G50vt so much, but that's far too expensive for me, though you can find mobile core 2 quads really cheap!

it should be a great upgrade and u should notice improvements in ur apps... u can also overclock the CPU when u get SetFSB so u can have even more performance...
