PC5300 RAM will work with the 8600 (and downclock to PC2700 speeds) assuming that it is DDR and not DDR2. However, I don't think they make DDR PC5300 RAM for laptops. I could be wrong though...

Now it will not work in your laptop. the Inspiron 8600 was made before ddr2 existed. I have an 8500 which is nearly identical to the 8600, except the 8500 had a real graphics card. the 8600 can use Pc 2100, Pc 2700 and Pc 3200 ram.

Pc 5300 is ddr2 memory, and it will not work in your laptop. Heck, it wont even fit into the memory slot.

No way. The fastest DDR you can get is PC3200
