    to up grade my Aser aspire 7720 to one of the new i7 cpu and hard drive to one with a 7400 rpm

    No go with the i7, or anything faster than an 800MHz FSB Socket P processor, but you can almost certainly use any standard 2.5" SATA hard drive in the machine, 7200RPM or not.
