I looked at my laptops specs and it said
the mainchipset it Intel 945PM. Is that my mobo?

in this case, the term "chipset" pertains to the core functionality of your motherboard, but that's not its make/model.
-
Your mother board is the large board in your laptop that has the CPU, chipset, ram, and just about everything else connected to it.
-
well that's not quite true, because the chipset is actually soldered to the motherboard and is non-removable like CPU or RAM, so it is a little different from other components
-
Upgrading a motherboard is not possible unless the system manufacturer offers one for your particular model. -
so the main chipset dosen't need a bios update to be merom ready right?
-
All you need to be Merom compatible if you have a Core Duo based laptop is:
1. A BIOS update from the laptop manufacturer. If the BIOS natively supports Merom, then there is no need to do any updates.
2. The cpu needs to be socketed on the motherboard. If it is soldered on to the motherboard then no upgrade is possible. -
If I asked samsung if the cpu is soldered or socketed, would they answer my question or reject it?
-
Would this be my motherboard?
